Reconfigurable Machine Tool Design for Box-Type Part Families

The reconfigurable manufacturing system (RMS) is a new technology and paradigm that resolves the contradictions regarding high efficiency, low cost flexible production in mass of part families. Reconfigurable machine tools (RMTs) are core components RMSs. A approach proposed for design RMTs, which closely related to process planning given box-type family. concepts processing unit segment presented; they not only basic elements plans machined parts, but also structural RMTs. Processing units created by features can be combined into various segments. All one correspond machining operations performed RMT. By arranging segments according sequence, variety feasible obtained. Through analysis established similarity calculation model plans, most similar parts family determined used Therefore, designed RMTs achieve rapid conversion functions with least module replacement or adjustment realize Taking gearbox as an example, validity presented method verified.
